How to get a business landline number on your mobile

You do not need a physical landline to have a landline number. A virtual number rings your mobile, and an app lets you call out showing that number instead of your personal one.

How it works

You choose a local 01 or 02 number, or a national 0333 number. Calls to it are forwarded to your mobile. With a business calling app, you can also make calls that show the business number, so customers never see your personal mobile number.

Why sole traders and small firms do it

  • Look established with a local area code
  • Keep personal and business calls separate
  • Turn business calls off in the evening and send them to voicemail
  • Add a colleague or an answering service later without changing the number

Things to check

  • Can you show the business number on outbound calls?
  • Is there a monthly rolling option?
  • Do you get voicemail to email and missed call alerts?
  • Can you port the number away later?
